As part of an ongoing research project led by Muthumuni Fhumulani Managa, investigating the seasonal variation of microbial profiles in drinking water, a field sampling campaign was conducted in the Venda region of the Vhembe District, Limpopo Province. The objective of the winter-season campaign was to collect water samples from multiple sites to assess microbial presence and diversity, with a subsequent summer sampling planned for comparative analysis.
Approximately 70% of the local population relies on natural water sources for domestic use. In some areas, community members, with the support of local royal authorities, have installed pipelines that convey water from these natural sources to nearby storage tanks, improving accessibility. To evaluate microbial dynamics along the distribution pathway, Managa and her research team collected samples from both the primary sources and the corresponding storage tanks.
