SETAC 9th World Congress: Muthumuni Managa Presents Photodynamic Porphyrin Conjugates for Water Treatment

Muthumuni Managa presented groundbreaking research on creating a new line of defense against polluted water.

The presentation, “Photodynamic Activity of Novel Porphyrin Conjugates Against Bacteria in Water,” introduced an innovative approach — using special light-activated molecules (porphyrin conjugates) to destroy harmful bacteria in water sources. Think of it as a sustainable, chemical-free way to clean water!

This innovation is part of the NanoSolar Projects supported by funding from the Royal Society under the International Collaboration Awards program, represents a major step toward sustainable water purification. It’s particularly vital for communities facing challenges with Emerging Contaminants and limited water infrastructure.

Engaging with researchers from around the world at #SETAC9thWC made it clear: collaboration drives progress toward cleaner water, sustainability, and better public health.
